Located in a prime location, overlooking the city of Lisbon, Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, is one of the most promising urban regeneration areas today.
The building started as a noble house and dates back prior to the 1755 earthquake that destroyed part of the city of Lisbon. Having survived this natural disaster, there has been several interventions throughout the years. Before the project, most of the building was abandoned and in poor living conditions.
The main purpose of this proposal was to give back the building´s original character and dignity representative of the historical zone in which it is inserted.
With deep respect for the classical Portuguese architecture, all of the facades of the building were restored, including all its decorative elements and existing masonry.
The interior compartments did not suit the requirements of modern living spaces. Therefore, there was a big intervention in terms of organization, opting for a more modern architectural language that creates a stronger relationship with the existing classical elements.
The proposal includes the creation of several apartments, mostly duplex, taking advantage of the existing high ceilings, in total 22 apartments and 1 retail space.
With a U shape implantation, the backyard recovers its original dimension and is the green heart of the complex. It will be a leisure garden for the inhabitants. Some apartments will have private terraces at the garden level.
