Can the LifeStraw Mission be frozen?
If your LifeStraw Mission has been used, and is then exposed to freezing temperatures, water inside can freeze and crack the filter. You may not see these cracks, so we recommend never letting it freeze once it’s been used. When camping at high elevations or freezing temperatures, be extra careful not to let it freeze.
Can the lifeStraw Mission be used on sea water?
LifeStraw Mission cannot remove salt and cannot be used on sea water, ocean water or brackish water.
Can the LifeStraw Mission filter out sea water, heavy metals, chemicals or viruses?
The LifeStraw Mission is designed for hikers, campers, travellers and other outdoor enthusiasts. It will filter out 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria, 99.999% of waterborne viruses and 99.99% of waterborne protozoa. LifeStraw Mission does not remove chemicals or salt from salt water and should not be used with ocean water, sea water or brackish water.
How do i clean my LifeStraw Mission?
After every use, clean the pre filter inside the dry bag and rinse out the bag. With both taps closed, squeeze the red bulb 3 times. Each time, the bulb should be compressed fully and then allowed to refill completely. Then, open the red tap and let all the water drain from the filter. Note: water from the red tap is not filtered and therefore not safe to drink. Detach the quick release to separate the dry bag from the filter and let both dry before storing them.
It is taking a long time for water to come out the blue tap on the LifeStraw Mission - any tips?
When you use your LifeStraw Mission for the first time, the purifier is completely dry (after storing, for example), and it takes a little longer to prime the filter. We recommend that you fill the dry bag completely and open the red tap for 3 seconds to let water pass through the filter. Close the red tap and let the filter prime for approximately 1 minute. Then, turn the blue tap on. As the filter gets wet, the flow rate increases. Note: water from the red tap is not filtered and therefore is not safe to drink. If you are still having trouble getting it started, make sure the red tap and blue tap are closed and squeeze the red bulb until it is fully compressed. Then open the red tap for 3 seconds. This should push any trapped air out of the filter. Close the red tap, and let the red bulb fill up with water and then turn the blue safe water tap back on. Note: water from the red tap is not filtered and therefore is not safe to drink. If the flow rate is slow, try backwashing the filter several times before restarting it. To do this, make sure both the red tap and blue tap are closed, squeeze the red bulb 3 times. Each time, the bulb should be compressed fully and then allowed to refill completely. After squeezing the red bulb 3 times, open the red tap for 3-5 seconds to release the dirty water. Repeat this process as necessary to restore flow. Note: water from the red tap is not filtered and therefore is not safe to drink.

How will I know when the LifeStraw Mission has reached the end of its life?
The flow rate of your LifeStraw Mission will decrease, and then stop pulling water through once it reaches the end of its life. You can increase the lifespan by cleaning the LifeStraw Mission after each use (see cleaning instructions for pre-filter cleaning and backwashing the purification membrane).
What does the LifeStraw Mission purify?
The LifeStraw Mission removes 99.9999% of bacteria, 99.999% of virus and 99.99% of protozoa that is present in the water using hollow fiber membrane ultra filtration. They have a 0.02 micron pore size that physically eliminates the bacteria, virus and protozoa from the water.
