Designed by the North American golf architect Robert Trent Jones Senior, TROIA GOLF was recently rated by The Golf World magazine has the 17th top golf course in Continental Europe, and is listed under the 2017 “Top 100 Golf Resorts in Continental Europe”.

Having settled further among Europe’s elite golf courses, it has risen by nine places to number eight in the ranking of Golf World’s top 100 golf courses in Continental Europe 2019. The stunning Robert Trent Jones Senior links made a sensational ascent up the rankings into Europe’s top 10, as golfers and industry experts finally rightly acknowledge one of Portugal’s best-kept secrets. Assessed over six different categories – design quality, setting, playability, presentation, memorability and hole consistency – Troia scored an impressive 82.9 points out of a possible 100, with the magazine’s judging panel scoring the course highly in all criteria. Troia’s new ranking puts it among the top two in Portugal.

Unwind in this 6-hectar, 18-hole and par 72 golf course alongside the beach with a dazzling view of the sea and Arrábida Mountain.

PRESENTATION

Situated between the Sado Estuary and the Serra da Arrábida, the TROIA GOLF Championship Course is an 18-hole, par 72 and 6,317-meter long golf course that stretches along the beach with magnificent views of the sea.
Robert Trent Jones Senior chose Hole 3 of the Troy golf course as one of the best he ever drew and chose it as part of his ideal 18-hole course.
There are two holes that deserve special reference – the 3 and the 18:
Hole 3, a par 4 with a perfect landscaping and magnificent ocean views considered by Robert Trent Jones Senior himself as one of the best he has ever designed, was chosen by the architect as part of his ideal 18-hole course.

TROIA AMONG THE MOST SUSTAINABLE GOLF COURSES IN THE WORLD

Portugal’s Troia Resort has been recognised for its continued sustainability by the Golf Environment Organisation (GEO) after receiving the prestigious accolade of becoming GEO Certified®.

GEO Certified® is a comprehensive modern certification, developed specifically for three key areas of the industry: golf facility operations, golf development and renovation, and golf tournaments. The distinction serves as a credible platform for communications of real outcomes and continual improvement around nature, resources and the community.

Home to a wide range of flora and fauna, with more than 600 species listed, biodiversity has always been at the forefront of Troia’s operation – and GEO’s reputable certification has reaffirmed its commitment to making the resort sustainable and environmentally friendly. Troia also saved 45 million litres of water in 2018, compared with 2017 consumption, after introducing a management plan to improve irrigation and ensure the greenkeeping team used water more efficiently. The plan included a structured daily decision of whether to irrigate, as well as adjusting the frequency and applications used.

The resort’s environmental commitment also includes the reduction of plastic. All members and guests are encouraged to use 100 per cent recyclable or reusable bottles, both of which are stocked in the pro shop. The club has also stopped selling plastic golf tees.

CLUB HOUSE RESTAURANT

During the remodeling of the TROIA GOLF Championship Course, the Clubhouse Restaurant was built. Designed by the architect João Paciência, the Clubhouse offers the possibility of enjoying a delicious meal with the lake as scenery, and that is in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature.

João Paciência has created a very cozy space in a modern style. The simple lines of the building, torn by a double height glass entrance and vast windows in the south and west, offer a comfortable and open atmosphere to the golf course.

On the north facing side, is where the lockers rooms are located, connected to a lower floor, where the caddymaster is, with direct access to the field. To the south, the living and dining areas, offer large terraces with a privileged view to the TROIA GOLF Championship Course. Especially for holes 1, 18 and lake.
